Grace's Story

Soccer

18 Years Old

Adelaide, South Australia

In almost every single team that I have played for I have been forced to wear white or light coloured shorts, which I have either managed to bleed through or wear my brightest pink undies underneath.

I started playing soccer for my school in year 5 and then became a goalkeeper in year 6 after being forced into goals for a SAPSASA tournament, however I instantly fell in love with the position. I progressed quickly into the state program, I started with u14s and then moved up to the u16 and finally to the u18s. I first signed with Adelaide United in the 2021/22 season, in 2022 I made both my Junior and Young Matilda’s debut winning the Football South Australian Rising Star of the year award.

In almost every single team that I have played for I have been forced to wear white or light coloured shorts, which I have either managed to bleed through or wear my brightest pink undies underneath. Wearing white shorts whilst being on my periods has put me in extremely uncomfortable and even embarrassing situations, which many clubs refuse to see as an issue. White shorts are a barrier that stop athletes and people with periods from enjoying the sports that they dedicate so much of their lives to.
